This is a great idea, a widget that automatically started recording a new track
(if one
weren't already in progress) and another that automatically stopped recording,
or one
widget that started a track if one weren't running and stopped recording if
there were
one running. If one is in the middle of running or whatever it's a real pain to
have to
open My Tracks, go into menus and manipulate the track from there. To be able
to press
home key and press widget... that would be bliss:-) Also a widget to force My
Tracks to
speak current stats, so you could get stats every time you passed a milestone
of
interest. Thanks.

Start / Stop Track
Pause Track
Grab Waypoint
Capture image (for including as part of a KMZ).
View Distance covered
View altitude etc
Ideally the widget would be the same sort of size as the latitude widget

The widget interface and distance/time/speed updates are all set, but the
widget controls for the track service (start/stop) are still in the works. If
all goes well, it should be ready some time next week.

From this widget - How do can a user add a waypoint?

Unless we feel waypoints is a blocker for an initial release, this would be a
future enhancement. The version ready now allows track starting and stopping
(button) and statistics updates. Also in the queue is the ability to pause
tracks and support for detailed stats.

I agree that waypoints are for a future release.

Light critique from a user: Way too much home screen real estate is taken up
with the labels. If it isn't already evident from the number and units what is
what (which it most likely is), a quick look at a doc or something would tell
me what the numbers are and then I know, I don't need a constant reminder
taking up half a row on a home screen. (although maybe a 2x1 widget isn't
standard, so you've got to take up the whole row anyway?)
Also, I hardly ever look at my phone while MyTracks is running, so wouldn't
ever use the stats listing, but a widget to quickly start/pause/stop the
recording without having to go into the app, wait for the map, etc. is still
nice to have. So a simple widget that takes up just one box on a home screen
to start/pause/stop would be ideal.
So I guess what I'm saying is "future enhancement: different size widgets".

Since you've already sent code for review, I'll change to Started. Please
update accordingly.

We have a working version which still needs improvements. I think Sandor is
working on it.

A very basic implementation can be found at:

Rodrigo please review.
This works but there are a few things that this does not do which I think the
widget probably should in follow up changes:
- Display pace
- Pressing the widget should launch the app
- The UI is still pretty bad.

I submitted a rudimentary widget. There are still many things to fix in future
iterations.
