New way to view datasets in the matrix #408

Today I met with Fatima Oudeif, a summer intern on the HuBMAP project.

We discussed the FTU Explorer. I noticed that she may prefer to see the biomarker header in the rows, rather than in columns as we currently have. The horizontal scrolling situation in the matrix may be confusing, as most users are used to scrolling vertically.

It could be nice to have a feature where users can restructure the data and view the biomarkers in the rows and cell types in the columns. Users may need to export these datasets in their preferred way so that we can add more value to the FTU Explorer App.

I asked if exporting a table in the current state would be cumbersome for her workflows. I observed an opportunity for this workflow to be more intuitive. We then discussed DataFrame in Python. Fatima added to my whiteboard:

Let's discuss as a team in Y3 how we can make viewing and exporting data in the FTU Explorer more intuitive.
