sipdroid not showing up as dialer option #29

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
When I first installed sipdroid, before I even set it up, when I tried to
dial a contact, I would be prompted for which app to use (dialer, gv or
sipdroid).

After I set it up, I no longer get that prompt.

I went into the relevant apps and cleared the defaults but still no luck.

At first I had the market version but after that I installed the full version.

Any ideas?

Thanks

If all these issue have been merged into here, why is it status "won't fix".
Is this
the /dev/null of important issues?

@eric.c.jahn and others. I am not involved in this project except as a regular
user
since the first release. I understand several people have opened issues for the
way
dialing intents are handled and I understand that sipdroid has taken a rather
non-tradiational way of handling this. As an avid user who makes and receives
regular
calls on both SIP and PSTN, I have to say I appreciate the system. The text
intent
and dial modifier both give me a way to over-ride whatever else might be setup
and
force a sip call - one for phone book entries and one for key dialed numbers.
The
prefered call type setting and regex pattern matching of dialed numbers is FAR
MORE
flexible than a boolean value in androids default program / intent handlign
system. I
assume ths is ticket is marked as wont-fix because nothing in the standard
android
system provides the kind of flexibility that some of us already depend on in
sipdroid.

I have the problem where SIPDroid doesn't show up under text as an option,
though I
am registered and can direct-dial calls from the app itself.

I don't understand why my issue
(http://code.google.com/p/sipdroid/issues/detail?id=429) has now been moved to
the
"won't fix" category. It's a type "defect" and the creator "won't fix" it. All I
wanted was a simple enhancement to the Sipdroid dialer that would take like 2
lines
of code probably and you guys just canned it. Can I get a response from the
author,
personally, why my issue has just been canned and it's only been on here for a
day or
so? This sucks.

because you can go to the contact, click on text, then you'll have the option
to use
sipdroid

and that is already good enough for most users?

Here's my issue, verbatim:
"Under Call Options -> Preferred Call Type can you add an option to "Always Ask
Me".
That
way whenever I dial a number it will ask whether I want to make the call using
Sipdroid or
my regular dialer similar to the way Google Voice works when you activate that
setting."

I want to be able to click on a contact,or dial any number and when I click the
green
call button it should prompt me a kind of "Program to Use for this Action"
dialog
with "Phone" or "Sipdroid".In Google Voice,if you go to Settings, under
"General" and
click "Making Calls"....you can pick the option "Ask every time I make a call".
That's the option and behavior I want in Sipdroid. In Sipdroid, under Preferred
Call
Type you already have 3 options. Sipdroid Only,Sipdroid when available,Phone.
Here's
why those dont work for me.
Sipdroid Only - I may not want to use Sipdroid for every single call that I
make for
whatever reason. It should be my choice.
Sipdroid, when available - This is basically the same thing as #1. It says "When
Availble" but when you have it set to make calls over 3G,my 3G network is
available
99% of the time(VZW) so it's always available and thus always trying to make
calls
over Sipdroid.
Phone(only)-Well this is the exact opposite of the first two.It only uses the
default
dialer and I have to manually pull up Sipdroid to dial a number.

Ask Every Time(suggested 4th option) - This is a nice compromise. Whenever I
dial a
number, anywhere in the system, even if clicked from a webpage, it prompts me as
to
whether I want to use Sipdroid or the default dialer. Problem solved. Now I can
use
Sipdroid for the calls I want to use Sipdroid for and my regular dialer for
other
calls. Is that really so hard? I'm sure this would take like 10 minutes of the
developer's time but would save me (and potentially other people) a lot of
frustration. Thank you.

I don't wuite understand.

Why is my much more distinct and detailed description merged into this much
simpler
one, which is already set to wontfix - without even asking back?

I don't see a simle way to chose how to make a call - all solutions I see
require
many, multiple actions.

What's the problem of the switch I rpoposed in the main screen?

@glevy11, @pmerle: the fact that many people complain here aboput many things
being
merged into a single one - obviously without comment, and without asking, shows
that
here seems a bit of ignorance of user ideas.

Why do you let us write these things down, if you don't even care to consider
them,
or discuss and ask back?

I agree with ohollo (Comment 16) about the 4th option which should be
available: a
dialog giving you the option to use phone or sipdroid after selecting a
phonenumber
to dial. the cSipSimple app (http://code.google.com/p/csipsimple/) uses this in
a
pretty way, but is still extremely under development and by far not as
extensive as
Sipdroid (yet).

Another reason why this is useful: the text-to dialog gives you the option to
dial
just the mobile phone of your contact (at least on my phone). While I would
like to
call especially landlines through Sipdroid.

@henning: the reason there is no active discussion from the developers is
probably
because of the workload. I agree though that this Issue should get Enhancement
status
by now.
