In the edition linked below, there's a syllable encoded with an unnecessary space (e - in line 581).

This causes several problems:
in MEI conversion lyrics attached to the note are divided into two syllables, as if it were an elision, but the second <syl> element has no value:
<syl>
<note xml:id="note-L581F7" type="placed" dur="4" oct="3" pname="g" stem.dir="up" accid.ges="n"> <verse xml:id="verse-L581F8" n="1"> <syl xml:id="syl-L581F8" type="repetition" con="b"> <rend xml:id="r1bus119" fontstyle="italic">e</rend> </syl> <syl xml:id="syl-L581F8S2" type="repetition" con="d" wordpos="i"> <rend xml:id="remmudf" fontstyle="italic" /> </syl> </verse> </note>
This in turn is converted to SVG in similar way:
<g id="verse-L581F8" class="verse"> <g id="syl-L581F8" class="syl repetition"> <text x="13820" y="67381" font-size="0px"> <tspan id="r1bus119" class="rend" font-style="italic"> <tspan id="tljarc2" class="text"> <tspan font-size="405px">e</tspan> </tspan> </tspan> <tspan font-family="Leipzig" font-size="720px"></tspan> </text> </g> <g id="syl-L581F8S2" class="syl repetition"> <text x="13820" y="67381" font-size="0px"> <tspan id="remmudf" class="rend" font-style="italic" /> </text> </g> </g>
For some reason, this empty syllable suppresses the highlighting of the first few notes in every system. As if there was an invisible shape covering the notation:
When the space is removed everything works as expected.
Should be fixed by commit https://github.com/rism-digital/verovio/commit/98a9f2df3b3b493120670b983e87ee246516a6e1
(I am compiling updated version, so should work within an hour in VHV/POPC2).
