Viggen used a system called TERNAV that used a stored height-map of the world and compared it to the radar altimeter to assist its inertial navigation system. Can we throw something similar together with a floorplan, a distance sensor (and/or camera)? How? ...something AI something something AI something... String your own words together.
We could also mark important locations on the floorplan, such as the coffee machine so that the robot will understand (and hopefully be able to execute) commands like "go to the coffee machine" regardless of where it is in the lab.
