Support lock for Ctrl and Alt keys? #183

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.
2.
3.

What is the expected behavior? What do you see instead?

What version of Hacker's Keyboard are you using? (See "Debug" section at
the bottom of the app's Settings menu.)
On what phone or tablet?

If applicable, does this affect the 4-row or 5-row layout, or both? Which
language(s)?

Please provide any additional information below.

You're aware that Ctrl and Alt are multitouch capable? You can press and hold
Ctrl, and then press other keys which will all be modified until you release
Ctrl.

I'm a bit split on this issue. Adding lock support for ctrl and alt would not
be very difficult in the code, but it should not be on by default since people
may get the keys stuck accidentally. I'm not keen on adding additional options
to control this behavior at runtime, the options menu is already very cluttered.

I'd prefer to defer this until I have support for customizable keymaps, where
it would be easy to support "Ctrl" and "lockable Ctrl" as distinct keys that
users could choose to assign in their keymaps.

I am looking at this app for use by people with disabilities, but sticky keys
would be a must. If you are controlling a pc with sticky keys on, it may
work, but I want to be able to turn an android device into a usb keyboard &
mouse for plug in & go accessibility to computers in a work or school
environment.
