maybe I just don't know the settings but to be able to match persistent 
notifications appearance to normal notifications would be awesome. and also the 
ability to get rid of contact icons and maybe swipe to clear the notifications.

Thanks for your feedback.
1. Persistent notifications has a whole different purpose. it supposed to give 
you a constant information below the clock on the widget, such as weather 
information,  calendar events, playback controls, etc... it shouldn't look like 
a standard notification.
also, persistent notifications are usually have their own custom layout and not 
using android standard notification style, therefore I cannot parse information 
from it and show it as a standard notification. think of it as a widget for the 
NiLS widget and not as a notification. 
2. Contact icons - the contact icons are provided by the apps themselves. NiLS 
cannot know which icon the notification will have. however, you can use 
"Compact" notification style to display just the app icon and not show the 
notification icon.
3. I wish, but swipe to clear is impossible on Android widgets. I'm thinking of 
a hack for this, but currently there is no solution.
