research on the concept of wormhole #2

as per the meeting with mads, we need to develop the idea a little further and incorporate scientific elements within the project - it will elevate our project from being just an art installation and will provide some depth to it.

I think based on what Mads said we have two options:

  1. Go with the wormhole idea - they are purely hypothetical, so we’d have to mention this is an artistic representation of what our team believes traveling through a wormhole would look like. I guess we need to ask Neill during our meeting whether it’s okay to base our project on a hypothetical topic just to be safe.

Livescience says “If a wormhole did exist, it would look very strange. The entrance would be a sphere, like the surface of a planet. If you looked into it, you would see light coming in from the other side. The wormhole tunnel could be any length, and while traveling down the tunnel, you would see distorted views of the region of the universe you came from and the region you were traveling to.”

So we can use our imagination to make the journey through the “throat” of the wormhole (yes that’s what it’s called heh) as creative as possible - maybe even use fans to generate some wind-like effects?

“If we assume that a wormhole has some sort of gravitational properties, it is conceivable that the presence of mass or energy near the mouth could affect the surrounding space. This could potentially result in distortions or perturbations, including the flow of matter or energy, such as wind-like effects.”

PS - for the wormhole idea, did we have any thoughts on interactivity? Apart from the motion detectors that would start the journey that is - might be worth giving a thought :)

  1. Just as a backup option, we can think about incorporating nebulae. We know what they look like because NASA captures images of them (and they’re stunningggg (ref https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MzWiKjSr9I&ab_channel=NASASpacePlace)), so we can maybe incorporate them into our space visualization either way. Essentially, Nebulae come from the dust and gas from a dying star, or regions where new stars form - they’re like the building blocks for stars. It could be interesting to incorporate some interaction for the users -> when they see Nebular(?) areas, they can hover their hands around the area to create a star. Similarly, if they see stars, they can use gestures to distintegrate them.

Just penning down my thoughts here, haha. Might be able to combine both ideas, that way, we have science to back up our visual choices, interactivity along the way, and abstract art for the hypotheticals? Let me know what you guys think
