10 years ago This is unfortunate and we're sorry that you're not able to use
Ikarus on your current computer.
We're currently planning on moving Ikarus towards 64-bit and/or multi-
core architectures, both of which are steadily becoming the
mainstream in the personal computing arena and on the server side.
Attempting to port to older architectures does not sound like the
wisest decision given the limited resources and developer pool. I
would expect that even if we do try to backport to the 386 that by
the time we're done, you might've gotten a new computer anyways, and
our work would've gone to waste.
The price of Pentium 4 computers currently run as low as $120 for the
desktop and $280 for the laptops[*]. Such low price to entry makes
the cost of porting to the Pentium 3 and older computers far more
expensive than the cost of buying newer hardware. In short, it's
hard for us to justify the cost.
If you really feel that this is unfair, and would like to work out
some other solutions, please let us know and we'll be happy to help.

This may not be a high priority bug for most, but requiring recent processors effectively rules out this distribution for me.
