I lead the protocol engineering team at Kaleido with expertise in blockchain protocols, consensus algorithms, peer-2-peer networking, and efficient on-chain state management. Kaleido is a leading Web3 technology company founded in 2017. I've worked in the permissioned blockchain space for over 2 years, contributing heavily to both the Hyperledger FireFly and Hyperledger Besu projects. Before Kaleido I was a Senior Technical Staff Member at IBM UK as the technical lead on development of enterprise messaging software MQ.
I currently lead the enterprise roadmap for Hyperledger Besu, contributing over 60 PRs in the past 24 months. These have been in areas all across the codebase, including peering, transaction pools, QBFT & IBFT, acceptance tests, and JSON/RPC.
I've presented on Besu at several Hyperledger events, such as the Hyperledger Besu meet-up in London and the Hyperledger Besu events at EthCC, the biggest Ethereum event in Europe. I'm a regular contributor to the Besu contributor calls and really enjoy collaborating with the other maintainers to continue its growth and development.
I've written and presented webinars on various Besu subjects. For example I wrote about Besu's suitability for financial use cases (see https://www.lfdecentralizedtrust.org/blog/why-hyperledger-besu-is-a-top-choice-for-financial-use-cases) and gave a video presentation on the latest features for Besu (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Quhmmv8hSds). My background working on enterprise middleware for 18 years at IBM has given me an excellent insight into the pain points enterprises experience when running software in production, which I've fed directly into the development of Besu.
My work on Hyperledger Firefly has included development of its transaction management capabilities, its handling of large numbers typical of Web3 chains, and better integrating its error handling with Besu's revert reasons.
Short Personal Pitch
I'm very interested in the development of new and existing Web3 technologies under the LFDT banner. If voted as a member of the technical advisory committee I will actively engage with the rest of the TAC to drive the growth and adoption of the most relevant and promising new areas of development. I will bring my experience working with enterprises who are trying to both understand and exploit this new technology space.
I typically try to attend the main Ethereum conferences every year, engaging with other Ethereum Foundation developers and organisations. As a core contributor through my involvement in Besu and Firefly I am well placed to bring the knowledge and skills learned through that involvement back into the LFDT technical advisory committee.
I really look forward to working with others on the TAC, learning from them and their respective areas of expertise. I've always enjoyed discussing new technologies with others in the wider community, something that the Besu and Firefly contributor calls give me regular experience of. Thank you for considering my nomination to the TAC.
