Also, Ubuntu-22 LTS is out [1] so maybe it could be worthwhile (or not) to look at the problems of the Ubuntu-20 issues through the lens of both 20 and 22 together (I'm just throwing ideas around).
The fact that we have a new pipeline will make the 22.04 upgrade much easier. You are right to raise if we should consider jumping to 22.04 directly. A brief experiment might be useful to see if that would be a big or little effort.
