My suggestion is to make a grid base solution where a component can take up 1/1, 1/2, 1/4 (horizontal or vertical) or 1/8. That way the design can be really pluggable and you can have many different layouts.
The ideal thing would be to use a form of interface to order and set up the components, but that may be a bit hard. I'll see what I have time to do.
This also sets a standard for responsive components. So if you have a twitter component it should work in any layout.
