1 year ago Yes, they both are "Apple Silicon" and have the same architecture: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_silicon#M_series. The filename of the misleading, it would be better to use "Silicon", as Apple seems to be using that term in favour of ARM.

1 year ago OK, thanks a lot for clarifying! As you say, renaming to "silicon" instead of "M1" could be done for the next bundle release. This would prevent such a misunderstanding.

1 year ago JFYI: I tried to install "HyperSpy-bundle-2023.05.16-MacOSX-arm64-Silicon.pkg“ on my private M2 Mac with OS12.6.5. There were issues with the installer and I got an error message saying something like „this package is not compatible with the installed MacOS version“. "HyperSpy-bundle-2023.05.14-MacOSX-arm64-Silicon.pkg" installation worked well. On the other hand, on my work M2 Mac with OS13.4 installation of "HyperSpy-bundle-2023.05.16-MacOSX-arm64-Silicon.pkg“ went smoothly...

1 year ago Thanks for sharing your experience. Am I understanding correctly that on MacOS 12.6 version 2023.05.16 has an error and 2023.05.14 doesn't, while both works fine on MacOS 13.4? Do you know which package would have raise the error message you mentioned?

1 year ago This error must have slipped my attention, sorry. I now deleted the folder, restarted the computer and then installed HyperSpy-bundle-2023.05.16-MacOSX-arm64-Silicon.pkg. No problems! Thank you!
Does anyone know whether the M1 distribution of the bundle can be installed on Macs with an M2 chip? Got this question via email.
