Berty, Thanks for this suggestion. We currently have not implemented voting of course, so we haven't chosen a system design, but we are in the process of exploring this at the moment, and will have some more public documents to point to shortly.
What you're suggesting is that somehow one gets more credit for taking an early risk that is borne out later. I understand the concept, and we'll take it into consideration.
One thing that we are trying to avoid are reputation attacks that take advantage of systems where one's reputation or karma is directly tied to the thumbs up or thumbs down of those that vote on a particular contribution. For example: you say something I don't like, so I call 20 friends who show up and downvote you. It's worth making sure that the mechanics favor bold / brave thinkers, as you suggest.
Can I close this? I'm not sure it's an actionable issue at this stage.
current situation: When you upvote something you get "karma" for reviewing some content and engaging in the community.
But wouldn't it be better when some content is getting a lot of thumbs and you were one of the first thumbers, your thumb becomes more valuable. Or the other way, if you downvoted some content, but the community gives a lot of upvotes, your downvote gives you less karma.
on the other hand this might punish people for having an opinion that is not in line with the communities opinion.
