Controlled Vocabulary tagging #763

User Feedback: User Feedback: I had an idea related to your Trello card: Controlled Vocabulary tagging. Named entity recognition and semantic annotations on the web are a really cool and powerful thing for users. My institute already does this for biomedical documents indexed by MEDLINE with a service called SCAIView (http://academia.scaiview.com/academia/). One of our colleagues already went as far as to generalize the front-end Javascript annotation system to be a bit more general (https://themerius.github.io/annodom/). Even though NER is a huge general problem, starting with the public/open ontologies/dictionaries that already support NER in the biomedical domain could have a huge impact even if just as a first step towards your ultimate goal.

I hope this is useful for you, and I haven't been too presumptuous. Keep up the great work, and feel free to email me for follow-up if you'd like :)

Thanks to the hypothes.is team and community for the great work you are doing!

I just had a chat with hypothes.is support about this. At my institution, we'd also like controlled vocabulary support in hypothes.is. Ideally, this feature should be combined with non-controlled, shared vocabularies, so that when you start typing a keyword you would get suggestions based on the keywords that members of the group have used previously.

I know that Jon Udell at hypothes.is has been working on this, and I hope this can be included as a standard feature of hypothes.is.
