Still needs work and thorough testing. This is just a crude attempt at getting it to work (it doesn't work) in the little time I had tonight.

Currently the protocols are built by meson, but it seems they can't be accessed by the code for some reason. I've tried mirroring the previous meson code. Also checked how it's done in Hyprland, but I can't seem to find the root cause of the failure. @eli-schwartz perhaps I've missed something obvious?
