This plugin https://github.com/andrey-git/home-assistant-custom-ui allows for lots of visual and functional customization options beyond what home assistant natively offers.

Some things to do with it:

Custom color state icons based on state for sensors
Sensor badges embedded in UI cards could make things like sensor clusters more compact and readable.
Display last changed times on components
Add confirmation requirement to important toggle switches to prevent accidental clicks
