When a posted sign is in line of sight both through a portal and not through a portal, it only renders through the portal. If you pan the camera away so that the portal is not on the screen, the sign reappears.
However, if you look closely, you can see the edge of the sign poking out from inside the grass block. It's as though it is being drawn inside the block.
