iDigBio Data Usage Summaries #1

iDigBio collects a fair amount of information on how users query our system, but currently does not have a method of summarizing and communicating that information to our data providers or the broader community.

Specifically, we have:

about a years worth of complete queries sent into the iDigBio system
information about what recordsets those queries touched
when the queries were performed
the geolocation of the IP that performed them
what type of query was being performed (download, search, mapping, seen, view)

Things our users have asked us for:

information about how their collection is being used
information about how the broader system is being used
help prioritizing digitization efforts
help determining how their collection impacts the broader system (relative ranking, uniqueness, etc.)

In talking with Alex about this, we discussed using the search history as an indicator of what people want from iDigBio. Combined with a summary of what is in iDigBio we perhaps could come up with a set of features or characters that are missing and present this as a priority for digitization.
