I have the same issue. I upgraded my 3G iPhone to OS 3 today using Pwnage 3.0
to
create a ipsw file. Tried to install MobileTerminal (316s-7) through Icy,
however it
just exited after one second. So I uninstalled it and reinstalled it using
Cydia,
however it still just exited after about second without even getting to a
prompt.
What can I do please?

PS. Good job to Alien Porter for writing this great app and Jay Freeman
(Saurik) for
helping maintain it. Greatest respect.

I have the same problem, I used redsn0w v0.8 to jailbreak a 3.0.1 iPhone 3G.

I installed it via icy and it starts then just terminates it self before the
prompt
appears.

The keyboard shows then crash.

I tried rebooting the phone but still the same problem.

If you need some other info please ask and I will see what I can do.
I'd really love to have a working terminal on my phone.

Are you guys able to SSH into your phone? I am curious if its a problem with
the BSD subsystem or something
else. If that works, can you try running mobile terminal from the command line?

I tired to SSH in but it said something about login symbol doesn't exist in
/lib/something

I tired several times and it just didnt work, then i thought that perhaps i
need to
install BigBoss recomended tools. Which bricked the phone and I had to restore
and
rejailbreak it (which I'm doing as we speak).

I'm going to try and SSH in to the phone again without the BigBoss meta-package
but

I'd like to know if there is something other than OpenSSH i should install on
the phone?

Thank you for helping out with this!

Chris

Perhaps I should mention that I used Icy and not Cydia before?
I have now changed to Cydia, forgot to uncheck it and choose Icy when I
jailbroke it
again. Not sure if this has any relevance but I thought I should mention it.

It works with Cydia apparently

If you can't get SSH working, then mobile terminal will definitely not work
since it depends on having a
working login shell.

My install procedure was simply to use redsn0w and Cydia. I don't know
anything about the internals of Cydia
and Icy, etc, but maybe the maintainers of those projects can help you.

I am going to mark this issue as invalid, but please re-open if you think this
is really a mobile terminal issue.
Feel free to post a question to the mobile terminal google group if you want to
discuss the problem further
with other jailbreakers (which is probably more appropriate than this bug)

Mobile Terminal (364-9) now works for me also.
I backed up my iPhone 3G, then followed the default instructions found at
http://www.quickpwn.com/2009/08/jailbreak-iphone-301.html
Carried out a "Complete upgrade" via Cydia and then install Mobile Terminal
(364-9)
using Cydia again. I now have my console back!
Jay Freeman you rock, you all rock.
