For results where multiple names match to a single name_submitted, the best match shown online is not the same as the best match included in the downloaded results. Even if you download "Detailed" format, including all matched, the name for which Selected=TRUE is different from the default best match shown online. In every case I examined, the online result is correct.
Example: I submit "Acacia pravissima” to the TNRS using default settings. It matches to "Acacia pravissima F. Muell.” which is flagged as accepted by Tropicos and ILDIS. If you click on the link “(+ 3 more)” beside “Name Matched” you’ll notice that one of the additional links is to "Acacia pravissima F. Muell. ex Benth.” in source TPL (The Plant List), which is marked as a synonym, with no accepted name provided. When I download the results, choosing "Best match" only, the synonym from TPL (with no accepted name) is included, instead of the accepted name from Tropicos and ILDIS.
I believe this is the same as the issue resolved by the closed pull request "Fix default sorting bug". Why has this happening once again?
