Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Open firefox 19.0.2, gimp 2.8.4, font-manager 0.5.7, gitg 0.2.5, retext
3.1.3, etc.
2.Set font to Share Tech Mono
3.Type or access the consecutive characters "fi" or "fl"

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected: two letters
Reality: one dot

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
ttf-google-webfonts 130303 on Arch Linux 64-bit

Some example screenshots are attached.

It's possible to work around this with FontForge.

1) Open the font file with FontForge_
2) For each of ``fi`` and ``fl``:

   a) Click ``View`` then ``Go to``
   b) Use the name ``fi`` or ``fl``
   c) Right-click the highlighted dot symbol and click ``Clear``

3) Click ``Generate Fonts``
4) Choose a font format, probably OpenType (CFF) or TrueType
5) Optionally change the file name, hit ``Generate``, disregard warnings and
hit ``Generate`` again

Hi,
I'm using Share Tech Mono on my Website and I'm experiencing the same problem.
Is this problem likely to be solved or is it better to look for a new font?

Michael

Can someone tell me why this fix isn't put into the original Font which is on
Google Fonts?

Reproduced GIMP 2.8.10 on Mac. Error with unnecessary ligature substitution.
Same error occurs when Ligatures are turned on InDesign CS6

What's going on with this? A fix procedure was posted here a full year ago, and
a pre-made fix was posted here in July 2014.

Is anyone with write access to this repo interested in committing the fix?
