Communities to start with? #2

Even though the project is just starting out, I think we need to be pulling together interested participants already at this stage; we need to identify a community or communities ripe for this sort of tool, so we can co-evolve the social structures with the technology.

Colleges: Students need to put in community service time, want to have things they can list as extra-curricular, and are tech savvy.
P-patches: People are required to do a certain amount of community work, but coordinating can be challenging
Rebuilding Detroit: the authorities aren't necessarily able to fix the problems, but the community can together
Retirement communities: Available free time, a great body of knowledge, desire to be productive

http://localwiki.org (and its locales: small towns and cities)
schools (high schools? unis?)
large cities (an audience similar to the FourSquare audience: check into a place and see open tasks / projects / ideas / flashmobs in or near there. sf0-style bonuses for proposed tasks that are completed; and a set of a few hundred common suggestions for improvements that could gain popularity and be monitored by the building/business/complex owners)

Sarah Williams' (recently moved over to MIT) urban explorations and related course
location-based gaming
