Revision 1041 Performance/Advnacing Issues #1015

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Using a large and complex form, swipe from one screen to another.
2. For some elements (not sure of exact circumstance), transition will take
several seconds. One place I saw this issue was when swiping into a repeating
group.
3. Get impatient/be unsure if swipe worked
4. Swipe/arrow again, possibly several more times in an attempt to get it to
move forward
5. When survey finally advances, it is likely to advance several screens
without displaying the interim screens.

What is the expected output?
Shorter delay between swipes
ODK only loading the next sequential screen no matter how many times the
interface is swiped/arrowed.

What do you see instead?
Long delays between certain swipes (not all)
ODK advancing several screens when the same screen is swiped several times

What version of the product are you using?
ODK Collect 1.4 Build 1041

On what operating system?
Android 4.4.2, Nexus 7

Please provide any additional information below.
Did a side by side between 1038 and 1041 to detect performance differences.

I suspect this is due to the modified save behavior implemented with 1040.
Maybe this behavior can be given a toggle in settings so we can use the "old"
save method if there are performance issues with the new.

Seeing "ODK Collect isn't responding. Do you want to close it?" message during
some long swipes.

We are rolling back to 1038 to avoid this issue for an upcoming data collection.

Note that long delay after swipe between screens is a new issue, wasn't present
in 1038.

Could you attach your form and media to this issue?

Is there any particular screen in that survey where this occurs more often?

I don't think I can post it publicly. Can I email it to you?
