Reverse color schemes make it hard to see UI elements in places with little
light (i.e., under heavy canopy or in a mud house). These are the places where
ODK was designed to work.
Also, reverse color schemes will not help battery life. Try
http://www.juicedefender.com instead.

For amoled screens it does help. Also when used in a dark place, the white
screen can be just too bright and a reverse scheme can help readability. Not
sure about the design of collect, but android does offer a light and dark theme
by default.
