Data must not be deleted when user closes the app Possible ways of doing this are:

• Just writing to a file - seems simple
• Room - basically SQLite, but seems very complicated and only for larger apps
• DataStore - a simpler variant, but everything needs to be async
• SharedPreferences - cannot store lists and slightly deprecated

• writing to a file isn't working because the API is surprising complicated and I'm getting permission issues
• Room and dataStore look far too complicated
• sharedPreferences doesn't have any good tutorials and the value cannot be a list, but will have to go with it anyway

• found a stackOverflow tutorial on sharedPreferences as the android codelabs have been deprecated
• temporarily the list is stored as a long string, but need to change

• Found Jackson (converter to JSON)
• wrote a couple of functions that converted the list of objects into "prefs.Maindata" and back again
• Data persistence working!
