Try disabling the downloads icon for now. I'll get back to bug fixing as soon as I can. A little preoccupied at the moment.

It is disabled and still causing the hang. No worries man. I appreciate the time you spend doing this.
I am unable to re-create the bug. Please try the following and send the log.
Run:
journalctl /usr/bin/gnome-shell -f -o cat
On another shell run:
touch ~/Downloads/test.txt'
And then
rm ~/Downloads/test.txt'

I think qbitorrent is conflicting with dash2dock. I am trying transmission and letting it run and see if it causes the same extremely lag. I will report later if I can see it's the two that cause the issue after running for awhile.
Ok, it took a day and leaving transmission going it happened again. So something with how torrent clients run and in combination with dash2dock it happens.

So were you able to recreate this? I have to rename 68 to an older version to use the extension. It doesn't matter what distro I use or what version of gnome.
Attempting to run a JS callback during garbage collection. This is most likely caused by destroying a Clutter actor or GTK widget with ::destroy signal connected, or using the destroy(), dispose(), or remove() vfuncs. Because it would crash the application, it has been blocked. The offending callback was SourceFunc(). == Stack trace for context 0x58bc819579b0 ==

This has been happening since the last update. I have tried gnome 43.9 and gnome 46. I have disabled every extension and the only way to stop the system hanging is to disable my 1 extension Dash2dock. I have also tried it on wayland and xorg. On xorg the hang is not as drastic but still occurs. This happens only when a browser firefox or any other browser is open and you download anything. When the download starts the system hangs for a minute or so. The only way it stops is by turning off Dash2dock. When the system starts to hang it floods the log with this checking downloads and the other message in the journald log. Ubuntu 24.04 Gnome 46 Version 66 Debian 12.5 Gnome 43.9 Version 68
