near the beginning of the survey.
xx. Is there a risk of actual, potential or perceived conflict of interest[1] associated with the provision of this data?
Yes No Not sure, I require some assistance
xy. If Yes, please provide brief explanation stating what and with whom the CoI relates to. If Not Sure, DIG to contact submitter to discuss further.

DIG felt that these questions divert too much
from the purpose of the DPT, which is not intended for data submission, or the
pipeline for data submission. Introducing these questions confuses the
following questions. DIG felt that if the main aim of these question was to
uncover CoI’s, then asking the CoI question upfront (that WKENSURE propose) is
clearer and would therefore agree to this question, but not the above
supplemental questions.
Existing questions
The order
of questions 6, 7, 8 will be changed into 7, 8, 6.
6. This
vocabulary is derived from the library vocabulary and therefore needs to be
kept generic;
a) SIPG (library) will be asked whether they
will consider developing a ‘non-biological’ categorisation. If this is not
possible, then DIG together with ICES Data Centre identify an appropriate
vocabulatry and adopt this in place of the ICES publications list.
b) The question will be rephrased into “How
should the data product be cited?”
15, 16, 17,
18. These question will be removed from the form and will come as part of a
follow-up dialogue to the initial response. These questions are quite specific
and usually difficult for the person filling the DPT to answer without some
coaching and probing. With respect to question 18, should ‘Data security’ be
interpreted this to mean longevity of storage? Even so, very difficult for the
profile filler to know, part of a follow-up dialogue.
20. The
question will be rephrased: Where are the data product stored? à
Where is the data product stored?
21. Flagging if no documents or scripts
available that describe how the data product has been processed and/or collated
is already in place as part of DPT evaluation process.
[1]A CoI arises when
there is an actual, potential, or perceived possibility that a scientist or
adviser makes a contribution to ICES work that is not based on a systematic
scientific review of the available information and evidence. An actual,
potential, or perceived CoI arises because the decision or outcome of a process
may be influenced, or is perceived to be influenced, by self-interest,
professional interest, external pressures, and other factors.” (ICES, 2022: 7).
