Optional question: capturing the reason for downloading data #310

Discussed during the March 2024 WGJCDP annual meeting

To help the WG better understand how data downloaded from the JCDP are being used, we can add an optional question to the download webpage of the Data Portal to capture this information.

Important considerations:

To be inline with ICES data policy, it must be clear this question is optional and does not impact on users ability to download public datasets.
The question(s) should include dropdown options so they can be analysed and reported on easily

This information will be shared with the data providers, and could be used as part of project reporting, with all personal information removed. Please note, providing this information is optional. You are not required to provide this information to access data through the JCDP Portal." [Dropdown options]

Is "Policy support" a better phrasing?

How about: "This information will be shared with the data providers, and could be used as part of project reporting, with all personal information removed." Replace with "Anonymised information will be shared with the data providers, and could be used as part of summary reporting."

Anonymised information will be shared with the data providers and could be used as part of summary reporting by the Working Group. Please note, providing this information is OPTIONAL. You are not required to provide this information to access data through the JCDP Portal."
