WGIPS & WGACEGG- SPF distrbution #52

Acoustic survey planning groups WGIPS & WGACEGG, amongst others, routinely report the distribution of SPF over a wide geographical area using survey derived data. Outside of their specific reporting roles (assessment working groups) these data are not routinely available as a combined overview. WGACEGG use survey data to produce heat maps of distribution of target survey species over the reporting range. By combining the data with other survey planning groups has the capacity to provide an overview of wide geographical area.

Acoustic data within the ICES DB are available, and the code currently in use, developed by Mathieu Dray (IFREMER), has been made available to the ICES data centre to explore potential uses.

This will be further discussed at WGIPS in Jan. 2024

A recommendation from WGIPS to DC did come through. Planned to be looked at in this autumn
