Add FAO GUID's from the Global Record of Stocks and Fisheries

Is ICES interested in incorporating the GRSF unique identifiers to SID or SAG? ICES stocks are given a unique GRSF identifier by FIRMS. For example, Icelandic cod (GRSF record) has this identifier: c91222f3-d0a6-3b49-b91d-5143b509ccf1

Reply from Aureliano 19/03 Please find attached the FIRMS-ICES stocks inventory including the GRSF unique identifiers (UUIDs).

To add the UUIDs you can refer to columns BM, BN and BO: • BM being the ICES stock names cross checked at ICES vocabulary http://vocab.ices.dk/?ref=357, • BN a column with some notes • BO contains the GRSF UUIDs generated so far. Some records do not contain the UUID or do not have a proper mapping for various reasons, including: i) identifiers not yet generated, they will be created in a next round, and ii) uncertainties regarding the ICES stock name. By reviewing the list, you might be able to add those few missing ICES names. If not, then we will "archive" those identifiers with no proper correspondence. Within the comments you will find "NO LONGER MONITORED?", we would be grateful if you can confirm. Keeping in mind that the inventory was initiated about 16 years ago, hence it contains some obsolete records which remain in the database but in a different status (archived). In the column BN, you can ignore other type of comments which are for internal use, but you are welcome to cross check. Stocks for Norway lobster and Sandeel will be finalized as soon as we will receive the area codes (FUs) and related coordinates. In any case, those UUIDs already assigned will be retained regardless the updates of the areas. Lastly, in case you spot any missing stocks not inventoried so far, we will be happy to add them.

Naturally, there is no issue with publishing this subset of ICES related GRSF UUIDs in vocab.ices.dk. And it will be our concern to send you any updates. Have a question, would it make sense to map this in vocab? then we can show it in SAG and SID. Maybe a talk could help in this case.

i think that makes sense - no need to talk - put a ticket into the vocab group to setup

Hello @Milldaz @cmspinto Aureliano (from FAO) wrote to me yesterday asking: You may remember also the GRSF UUIDs (unique identifiers for stocks and fisheries) we have now passed the 2 000 stocks published at https://i-marine.d4science.org/web/grsf/data-catalogue and I am wondering whether any action was taken to add such UUIDs in the ICES stocks database, as per discussions and agreement around the last FIRMS steering committee. And I am naturally available to assist and to refresh with all details.

Any developments on that front?
