The code of conduct is written. I sent it to wma for comment.
wma's response:
I dig this. You seem to have covered everything and done it with a sense of humor and humanity. So I like that.
I don't know if you need the last two points but it may be a tech culture thing to drive home the points as you are doing there. It comes across as mildly combative and you just don't need it. Not to make the other points. And maybe there is a point you are making I don't know about.
My response to wma:
By last two points, I assume you mean Pet Peeves and No Bullshit. I can see your point about it being too combative. For one thing, it’s not inclusive and welcoming. However, there are points there that I think need to be made. Interrupting women is a common way for men to suppress the input of women in meetings, so I want to make sure that’s clearly unacceptable. Strict grammar requirements are a common way for the well educated to suppress the input of the less educated and foreigners, so I want to make sure that’s clearly unacceptable. And I do want to make it clear that it should be spirit not letter. I’m sure I can find less combative ways to state all of that.
While saying women can’t program is a common problem in tech, it is technically covered by no bigotry against sex. I may drop that or try to find another way to emphasize it.
Sleep on it before merging. Also, set up the email before merging.
