The community Web site is a different story from the project itself. (really old code, low traffic)
Yes, the team that was working on SharpDevelop has long moved on. Reason is quite simple: for most people free as in beer is enough, and Microsoft is offering that. There was no audience any more (negligible).
I still just use sharpdevelop as it is once in a while, and live with the minor bugs for now.
It's a pity people's mentality is like you wrote, Chris. They only take 'free/gratis' from Freedom. I liked SD very much for what VS still misses, but mostly because it was OS licensed. Thank you for what you've done!
Visual Studio must be free as a freedom, not a beer.
Duke Nukem must die!
What do you think about MonoDevelop? I haven't tried it but the development seems to be quite active and could be an alternative to consider.
I see that the website is being closed. Development cycle of C# has slowed down to zero. Is this project death? I would be a shame in days of a bloated Visual Studio(3+GB already...). Just to be sure. Any reasons for this? Thx
