I would like to use this in a commercial project but it's missing a proper license. Can you please add a license to make it clear if we are allowed or not to use it in a commercial project?

This issue was opened in 2018. It is now 2020, and this issue still remains.

Certain commercial entities will refuse to use this project with a proper software license. My company is assuming we can claim it's in the public domain, so is okay to use. Most probably wouldn't do that.

You should add a software license to anything you release into the public, for your own protection (liability or what have you), and for other's.
