Open Raj2032 opened 1 year ago
@Raj2032 Hi there!
I cannot speak for @icy, but to me, the core of pacapt
is a set of convenience scripts that share a common basis, and package manager-related workflows are quite stable over time. So when the project has come to a plateau period where most main concerns have been addressed and @icy has seemingly limited bandwidth, this might not be a place to come by that often.
On the other hand, I believe even @icy doesn't have the chance to use all the pacapt
-supported PMs frequently to address all the concerns... So naturally there will be missing pieces. However, we will be extremely happy to review your PR if you have any particular issue to address :)
@rami3l Thanks mate for clearing this up with me :)
@Raj2032 Thanks for your question.
@rami3l Thanks for your answer. I can't agree enough :) It's very sad, but I don't have good chances to use my own script.
I've been kinda sick for a long time. More than 2 years I think so. How to say, now I just spend more time with other hobbies, and open source (and this project especially) is not my top priority. If you look at my github [public] activities there is almost nothing.
I believe the future would be something that @rami3l is working on (https://github.com/rami3l/pacaptr). I read somewhere there is also a community effort to make some standard regarding distro/software package management, I don't remember exactly the name; it's pretty big and overwhelmed to me.
If anyone is ready to take the maintainer role of the project, I'm eager to share. I think the best way is to maintain this project, not to develop more features. This is an open source project, it's up to its users. @rami3l what do you think, please let me know if you can help.
Thanks a lot.
@icy Thanks for your reply!
The very concept of pacapt
was literally the beginning of all my OSS contributions. Many thanks for that, @icy!
But at the same time, I understand, it is okay to shift priorities...
As a reference, my pacaptr
also seems to have entered a plateau period where there are quite a few regular users with few new feature requests.
I use it on a daily basis (so do dozens of other people according to the download count), but the hot paths are so hot that there might be bugs hidden in the cold paths for probably... ever. XD
what do you think, please let me know if you can help.
It's sad to say this, but currently most of my free time has been invested in helping maintain rustup
, so I'm afraid I can't take up the responsibility to become the main maintainer of this project.
However, I got involved in rustup
exactly because there was a call for help online.
I think maybe pacapt
can do the same on like Reddit or Hacker News, and I would be glad to spread the word if you want to hand this project over to the community :)
@rami3l Thanks a lot for your sharing. I am happy that pacapt
has inspired your open OSS work, and I am really happy to see that your project is now more mature.

I haven't known that way. I think it's worth giving a try (than doing nothing.) I am almost disconnected from the community and the fastest thing I can do now is to leave here my confirmation. Whenever you have a little time or chance, yes, please help to spread the world. Much appreciated.
Have a nice weekend.
@icy I hope you get better mate :)
Hi, it looks like it was last updated somewhat early last year, has the project discontinoued?
