gist.io only works with the first markdown-format file it finds—edit your gist and change the filetype to "Markdown" or give it a name like "myfile.md". After changing it, gist.io might not show your content for a minute or two until the cache expires.

Glad it's useful! I have a bunch of improvements I'm working on (including auto-detection to deal with your case), just need some free time…
