Old registry is still working but out of date #202

The old links that were in the old registry are still serving but are not maintained. For instance, http://identifiers.org/hgnc/ is not in the registry but is still reachable however this redirects to the old HGNC gene symbol report URLs that no longer exist. In the current registry, you have https://identifiers.org/hgnc: which is correctly mapped to the current HGNC gene symbol URLs. This is an issue because resources like https://www.ebi.ac.uk/ols/ontologies/mondo are relying on identifiers.org for keeping their links up to date but are using the old URL from the old registry. I wonder if there are other resources that are doing the same.

May I suggest maintaining the old registry or removing the old links so that these resources utilise the updated registry.

Thanks

Hi @KrisGray, I guess it doesn't solve the problem for MONDO since they seem to be pretty committed to not updating the URIs referencing HGNC genes (c.f. https://github.com/monarch-initiative/mondo/pull/4932, https://github.com/monarch-initiative/mondo/pull/5038), but the Bioregistry project has emerged as an alternative to Identifiers.org that's much easier to maintain since it's all done with open code/open data on GitHub (https://github.com/biopragmatics/bioregistry, https://bioregistry.io). I'd suggest checking it out while waiting for a response from the Identifiers.org team

Hello, sorry for the delay to answer you but I don't think I understand the issue here. Could you give us an example of how mondo is using old links and which are they?

I would probably suggest we maintain the old registry, although I don't know what that is. That way we don't break other systems. But I need to know specifically what do you mean by old registry.
