I experienced this issue running Windows Vista Business edition as well.

Although for me, it doesn't really seem to move the focus to the navigation
window,
but hitting the the backspace key will move up to the parent folder in the
file/navigation tree as if the focus where there. I can still type in the editor
without having to click on it or anything. Subsequent presses of the backspace
key
while the editor has the focus will keep moving up a level in the directory tree
until you hit the root folder(Desktop). Then backspace starts working as it
should in
the editor.

I noticed I can get around this by navigating to a different folder in the
directory
tree(simply clicking a different folder) and then refocus the editor it works as
expected. It is an extra inconvenience to have to do this every time I open the
editor.

(running version 0.98.6 as well)
