DIME Abbreviation Fallback #11

Closed kc2rxo closed 1 year ago

kc2rxo commented 1 year ago

In Section 4.4 it is discussed that if no abbreviation is known for a DIME that the hexadecimal is used instead.

Do we specify that this fall back is:

  1. a fixed length of 4-characters in hex
  2. variable up to 4-characters in hex
  3. nothing

Without any hat, isn't the fixed-length 4-characters in uppercase be better ?

In the same section, are the authors sure that there is a bijection between country and CAA ? (i.e., no CAA covering two countries like Skeyes.be for LU and BE ? ;-))

This is where I am leaning to - uppercase only 4-character fixed for the fallback. So basically 0x0000 to 0x3FFF.

While I personally haven't considered it I can envision that the CAA covering two countries would ask for two RAA values - one for each area if so they so wish to split it that way. Must like how I can see the FAA getting 4-5 RAA values for each region of the US.
