Section 2.2.2 contains a discussion of SMTP keywords starting in "X". Given general experience with such things and RFC 6648, is there any reason to not deprecate that practice entirely and remove that text? If we do so, should Section 4.1.5 be dropped or rewritten to make clear this is an obsolete practice?

It looks like there is support for removing restrictions on SMTP extensions starting with "X".

Additionally, there is desire to relax IANA registration policy. Possible proposal is to use FCFS + registration template requiring a specification. Barry Leiba to suggest some text on the mailing list.
