See new Section 4.2.4.2. More text may be needed, there or elsewhere, about choices of codes in response to initial opening and to EHLO, especially to deal with selective policy rejections.

Also 4.2.2 and 4.2.3 need to be updated to match. In particular, the description of 554 is not very clear at the moment.

In -03 John also added:

G.7.18. More Text About 554 Given 521, etc.

Does reply code 554 need additional or different explanation in the
light of the addition of the new 521 code and/or the new (in 5321bis
Section 4.2.4.2? (See CREF in Section 4.2.3.)

Text in 4.2.2/4.2.3 was updated to match. This ticket is ALMOST ready for closure.

John Levine agreed with the following proposal by John Klensin:

Should we aspire to get enough of the text from RFCs 1846, 7504, and maybe 7505 into 5321bis to obsolete those specs entirely (even if they are used as historical references)?

Note about RFC 7504/RFC 7505 added in draft-ietf-emailcore-rfc5321bis-05, so the ticket can now be closed.
