As defined in https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc6838#section-5.1 it is RECOMMENDED to get community feedback for media types registrations. Although it is not a MUST, my opinion is that It's a strong should. I would suggest posting it at the same time as WG LC, or IETF LC. Most of the time there is not much response on the list and that's fine, that means people don't object.
Just a note for when the time comes, make sure the authors send in the registration copy-pasting the full IANA section, that makes it easier for people to quickly check without having to follow links (people have been complaining about that before).
