New genre guide needed (edit page) #87

"We recommend the Baf's Guide list, but feel free to combine genres or go off-list as needed"

"Baf's Guide is currently down. Please try again later. " - I think it has been for years.

Instead of linking archive.org, is there a more recent (interactive) fiction genre list?

I don't have a new genre list, but in the meantime, I've created a pull request to fix the broken link.

If IFDB uses archive.org, should IFDB budget for a yearly donation to archive.org say $500?

For the genre guide, I'd recommend just doing an SQL search for the most common genres people pick and making the most common ones our list (there's probably a big drop-off at some point in popularity and we can use everything before that drop-off).

As for the ifarchive budget, I think something like that should be commensurate with the use. Some websites run their javascript and images off of archived versions, so they're basically running the entire site on ifarchive servers.

I imagine our ifarchive use is a lot lower; I'm not sure how many people ever click on the baf's guide links.

FYI, I'm not planning to do anything else with this right now. If someone else wants to, they can.

I think the question was about archive.org, not ifarchive.org (which is owned by IFTF, so I'm not sure why the IFTF would need to donate to itself).

That was just my brain malfunctioning, I was thinking about archive.org but my fingers typed out the wrong thing!
