Digsby web widget showing "connection failed" since few days ago #21

After it worked without any single problem for months, the web widget of digsby is suddenly showing "connection failed".

No, I din not change anything in my website. Yes, I have tried it from different computers / internet providers.

It looks like it can not connect to its server?

Any help would be appreciated.

Brok3nHalo commented 11 years ago

Oops, Sorry. We retired a couple of the servers the other day and we forgot the widgets only connects to certain ones and accidentally broke it. We're looking into it now and should have the widget back up and running shortly. Thanks for the heads up!

ghost commented 11 years ago

Every morning I get up with the hope that I will find the widget working. Still no change :(

libcow commented 11 years ago

Is there a workaround for this, so that we can just change the widget code and get it working again? If not, what do you think is the timeline for getting this fixed? Thanks!

Having the same issue. No one can chat with our DJs live anymore during their broadcasts. Any chance of a fix yet?

zchokweb commented 11 years ago

Same issue here. No one can chat with our advisors. Any news regarding this issue, is someone looking into this? Thanks.

Brok3nHalo commented 11 years ago

Strange this should be fixed, we fixed the reference to the correct servers the other day, we'll take another look at it early next week

loganlibrarian commented 11 years ago

We are having the same issue for about a month now.

LaughterOnWater commented 11 years ago

This continues to be problematic for me as well. I would be grateful to see this fixed.

ericdub commented 11 years ago

Been happening to us for the last week or so. I'm beginning to think this app is no longer being maintained.

LaughterOnWater commented 11 years ago

I suspect so. The forum is no longer accepting new members. Unsupported apps are not secure. It's probably time to uninstall it and find something else. I really liked having web access though.

jyoda commented 11 years ago

Has anyone found a reasonable free alternative with a working web widget?

zchokweb commented 11 years ago

Any update would be very much appreciated, still hope Digsby is alive!

technobly commented 11 years ago

I'm going to chime in here as well... would love to see this working again! :-) I love my Digsby chat program and have used it for many years now. Please fix the widget connectivity.

This feature has been disabled according to: http://digsbies.org/

"There is a small caveat though, a few features you may love are going away due to the software being decoupled from the backend servers. The first of these features is video chat. Provided by partnership with TokBox this feature allowed users to video chat with others regardless of network. The next feature is the Digsby Widget which allowed you to drop a small chat window on a webpage and let visitors visitors chat with you live, without signing up for any service."

I wouldn't expect it to work any time soon.

technobly commented 11 years ago

@KurtKnudsen thanks for the update... I guess stop hoping for it to work, and start looking for something else. If anyone has any suggestions please drop them here! I'm sure it will benefit people that used to use it.

Sorry for the late update on this one everyone, went on a trip and was AFK for a while.

But yeah, we looked into the issue and it wasn't as simple of a fix as originally thought. This feature's end of life was coming soon so they made the decision to retire it early as opposed to fixing it to only kill it in a month or so.

Good news is, if someone feels up to writing a plugin for Digsby, it shouldn't be difficult to implement a replacement. It could just use a standard Jabber back-end and the only client difference from the standard is it auto accepts friend requests and removes the friends when they log off.

I can probably get ahold of the source for the flash widget if anyone is interested in adapting it to a new server and writing the plugin. I believe I can also host the server at digsbies.org. I just don't currently have time to do the coding for such a project at the moment.

LaughterOnWater commented 11 years ago

I've got a dreamhost jabber account and jabber is running as a service. Would the web widget need to run as a service on the host?

LaughterOnWater commented 11 years ago

(sorry, "persistent process")
