I have build the documentation using the RTD Sphinx theme locally which looks really great. I am wondering whether to keep the 1.0 release on the previous theme so that it looks as before. But maybe this is overdoing the idea of backward compatibility as we are talking about just changes in design, not content.

@khaeru Could you update to revised theme as in message_ix after which I would suggest to merge this pull request.
