And surface for instance the following facets

on Projects, thematic focus (lobby, corporate, climate change, etc.), what is their tech approach (searchable databases, data viz, data analysis). On tools, mostly about uses (parsing, scrapping, network visualization, data cleaning).

Looking into client side faceted search plugins (again):

eikes/facetedsearch is unmaintained with no maintained or promising forks. The API seems a bit awkward but it seems to have the required features but would need work and tweaking on the display side.
srchulo/jQuery-Facets is also unmaintained and seems to target a more client/server approach anyway.
jiren/filter.js is more actively maintained. I gave it a shot before VisualSearch but wasn't super happy with the API. I'll give it another go nonetheless.

Need to deal with displaying the facets only partially (One row - trimmed with expand for 5+ options) and option to expand.
