Created a new branch named "stable_version" for IIPS website's Astra version as on 09-02-14 #36

Found a need of creating a new branch for a "stable release" of IIPS website's Astra version as on 09-02-14. Actually we have some newer version too in other branches that can be transferred to this afterwards upon verification. @Ankit-Kulkarni sir : You can use this branch to directly link with the domain http://iips.redirectme.net and changes done inside this branch will be shown on http://iips.redirectme.net So we shall not do any testing work in it so that in case if we loose any change or mistakenly try something in "testing" branch we shall atleast have this branch as backup. Hope everyone is getting my intention and would support it. This is a backup for stable Astra version and it should be used for http://iips.redirectme.net domain.

Need everyone's opinion. Thanks

Perfectly ok. The newer design is more better and cooler then the old one except the notice box and news box length. Notice is box is shorter in height and news box is empty from right side. We shall see to it what we can do for it in a more better way .

Thanks. Yes you are right even I felt previously that its height can be increased. I shall do that soon sir.

Ankit-Kulkarni commented 10 years ago

I just checked the theme testing and testing branch. Both have the same versions right now ? Any ways what I want to mention is that the old look was more better . I just compared the two and found a few points worth to mention.

  1. The new design has everything re-sized like the slider, notice and news box and twitter box and quicklinks etc .
  2. The new design has the top fonts smaller while the page components are larger.
  3. Since the design is re-sized now , the first menu item is stick to left most possible corner and right most corner is free now, however the old design had a close to justify view of the menu items.
  4. The new design since more in size needs increases the page length and thus needs more scrolling.
  5. The below notice box is empty.
  6. Quicklinks and footer have a gap which could be removed if footer and quicklinks are merged .

as you all know long scrolling web pages are bad practice we can do some better design so that the scrolling could be avoided or atleast lessen .

Sir I have done many changes recently containing:

  1. Merging quick links in footer.
  2. Increasing Notices and Announcements size.
  3. Increasing all links' font size.
  4. Embedding some links in quick links from footer etc

Kindly have a look in theme_testing site now. I am waiting for your feedback sir. I am sure you will like it :-)

Ankit-Kulkarni commented 10 years ago

Yeah the quicklinks are looking more better now . The merging is dam good . Still it can be done more like the IOWA univ . Like adding a small grey bar at stay connected line.

Also the quicklinks options in blue color are not clearly visible on black. It might have white color so that it will look more clear. Even now the black color of the footer can be changed to blue like the top and menu , it will look more better and consistent. I just tried it via chrome dev tools.

See it if you like it .

Should I use bigger icons for social links like UIOWA? Even I was thinking of turning the link color into white for footer. And yes I tried the blue color for footer but don't know why sir I am still liking black even more than blue. It is looking pretty good. What you think? I can turn it to blue though if want.

gauravparmar commented 10 years ago

I am also planning to differentiate all the quick link columns by vertical lines like UIOWA. What you say?

Ankit-Kulkarni commented 10 years ago

Still feeling that the resized box are very bigger and not looking as nice as the old ones. The size of the slider should be either like the old one or be like the harvard http://www.harvard.edu/ university . Also see the combination harvard used in the footer and quicklinks. We can use same in reverted manner. Gray for stay connected and black/blue for quicklinks

Actually we are having less content there. That's the issue. Also we shall have to plan to embed some more option at home page to properly cover the space available to us. I mean we are also having less options at the home page to display that's why it is looking spacious.

Ankit-Kulkarni commented 10 years ago

We have a few more options which could be added up . And Yes the idea of separation is good. We can do that in quicklinks. The quicklinks of Iowa is best for us. The way they have made a transparent logo in there footer. The way they have embedded a logo at the right and the combination they have used is perfect .

Eureka! Sir what if I enlarge slider to cover central area equal to header image at the beginning of home page then keep the three panels in one row that are "Notices and Announcements", "News and Activities" and "Twitter tweets" panels? I mean in this way it will look even better. What you say?

gauravparmar commented 10 years ago

I can do that too if you provide me a concrete design of logo to embed therein. Leave rest of the work on me :-) I'll make it transparent and embed it there. But our logo should be good enough for that and must suit this requirement.

gauravparmar commented 10 years ago

I was also thinking to try out some other carousel designs I have seen so far at some websites.

gauravparmar commented 10 years ago

Can you provide me a better logo for IIPS that I can embed in footer in UIOWA or Harward? I am just going to make some more changes now. You'll see a new theme soon.

gauravparmar commented 10 years ago

And yes please don't push anything in theme_testing branch ever please. Because I am currently working on it.

gauravparmar commented 10 years ago

I am considering your suggestions and going to enhance it even more. You will soon be able to see those changes.

Ankit-Kulkarni commented 10 years ago

Right now I do not have the one . I will search for the one and mail you asap. Yeah we can even change the home page design , but there are few issues with such design. But we will see it tomorrow when we meet. How can we redesign it . Its okk we are in no hurry right now. You can do them as and when you get time.

Till the time the Beta version do not replace the original domain , we won't be working on this .

see the attached images . The first one is more better . But might be the second is also good and can be used . Both have black backgrounds so they can be used in footer.
