Decrease portal size #346

Closed smurfix closed 11 years ago

I'd like an option to draw smaller circles for portals. In high-density areas, it's very difficult to see how many portals there are (or hit a specific one one with the mouse/finger) without zooming in too far (IMHO).

duplicate, #311.

Sorry that it took me so long to answer on this issue. Well...the reason for this "bigger sized" portals is, that they are much easier to click on mobile devices (on desktop they are small enough IMO)... If you want to test it for yourself, check out this build: http://iitcm.code-noobs.org/IITC_Mobile_smaller_portals.apk (try to select a L1 portal...it's annyoing...)

@leCradle I just spent several minutes playing with this and comparing screenshots. Here's a little feedback:

So hypothetically, if something like this were to be added as an option to the regular IITC Mobile release, I guess what I would like to see is, don't make the circle size get bigger for portal level. Especially now that there's a lot of standing L7's in my area, I recognize that the circle size zooming is really what's contributing to visual clutter in high density areas. Do you or anybody else find the circle size zooming useful to differentiate between portal levels? For me it significantly increases overlap which pretty much defeats the point of having that as a feature in the first place. Plus, there are the portal level numbers (incredibly useful) and highlight portal levels by color plugins. Making the circles zoom by portal level, as a feature that cannot be disabled, seems counterproductive to me. Perhaps somebody who does appreciate this feature can let us know their thoughts?

So again as a hypothetical, if some option were to be added to the regular IITC Mobile release, it would be to homogenize circle sizes so that every portal displays as either the size of the L1 portal in the preexisting app, or for a slightly more condensed view, as the size of the L6 portal in the custom test build you have just indulged us with.

Thank you by the way for getting a preview out to us of what IITC Mobile would look like if all the portals were smaller. I have learned that in high portal density areas, the only way to prevent the map from looking like a huge cluttered mess is to make the portals so small it's nearly impossible to reliably click on them with one's thumb.

You could even, theoretically at least, make it so you can tell if the portal-level-on-portals plugin is in place, and, if so, homogenize the smalls.

One slightly related thing I think we should also look at is to make it so the line and fill color aren't the same. It helps to have one of my highlighters on, but if not, or if you're in an area where there's a lot of portals not highlighted by it, the fact that the only difference between ring and fill color being opacity makes them stack to be the same color. You pretty much just get a blob of some number of portals. If they were different colors you'd still see the rings.
