IITC Mobile: Toggle Mini map #369

New Mini map is a nice feature, and it's analogous to an Overlay Layer. Please give Mini map a quick toggle - preferably from the Overlay Layers selector.

jonatkins commented 11 years ago

The minimap already has a hide/show action in the corner, much like the minimap used on other mapping web sites. Is this not enough?

tb52s7 commented 11 years ago

@jonatkins The preexisting toggle would be just fine, however I can't find it. Is it underneath the status bar or the map copyright? For that matter, is it intentional for the map copyright to overlay the bottom of the mini map?

jonatkins commented 11 years ago

Ah, I see - yes, it's hidden under the map copyright. Rotate the phone to landscape mode and you can probably see it. It does work nicely on the Nexus 7 though.

I've moved it to bottom right on mobile mode - works better there.

Now on 800x480 in default map, the toggle button is at all times partially obscured by the status bar, in both portrait and landscape, and with mini map both active and hidden.

I'm going to downgrade - I liked the mini map better in the bottom left corner. I know that's a superficial assessment, but the interface feels more cluttered directly over the status bar. Then again, I have been using default map lately.

Also, does the mini map need to take up a quarter of the available map area? Seems a bit large on my device.

jonatkins commented 11 years ago

The size could do with adjusting for different screen sizes. It's about right on the nexus 7. Patches welcome...

I'm posting this as a comment instead of opening a new issue, so I hope somebody sees it or I'll open a new issue for this.

New suggestion: Please please make the minimap remember which state it was in (i.e. shown or hidden), and then put the minimap back to that state on IITC Mobile reload. Having it pop back up every time I go back into the app gets fairly annoying since most of the time I'd prefer the minimap to be hidden.

The toggle button is still obscured in 480x800 when using any base layer other than mapquest, but otherwise I haven't seemed to have had any problems with how the plugin works.

Oh and for the record I think I'm happy with the size of the minimap on 480x800.
