In addition to the issues already mentioned, there is an ongoing effort within r-lib to improve the git-credentialling process - from a conversation at TDD Austin, I get the sense that this may be happening soon. The person I was talking to is as eager as I am, if not more, that the credentialling issue be sorted out; this person also identified a path that they intend to follow.
That being said, I'd like to wait for that stuff to become "bulletproof" before submitting this to CRAN and making publicity.
